12/4/07: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MEDIA ADVISORY

Milford, CT - Top Catholic Songs formally announced today the Top Ten Advent Songs from Catholic Artists, with contemporary artist Gretchen Harris earning top honors with her original song, "Promised Messiah". Kitty Cleveland's medley on "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" was voted #2, and in 3rd was Maureen and Bill Hayes' traditional rendering of "Comfort, Comfort". Lynn Geyer secured both the number 4 and 5 places, followed by up and coming new artist Joel Stein at #6, then Nancy Krebs. Trish Foti Genco also landed two spots and the list is rounded out by Deacon Chuck Stevens.

The Top Ten Advent Songs list is designed to "promote Advent songs, especially in light of the rampant commercialization of Christmas and the non-stop airplay of secular Christmas music on the radio, and the near disregard with anything in the Advent season..." stated Nick Alexander, Top Catholic Songs founding member and spokesperson.

According to a poll of the Top Catholic Songs online community, these 10 songs represent the best recorded songs by Catholic musicians fitting for the theme of Advent:

1. Promised Messiah / Gretchen Harris / Christmas Joy
2. O Come O Come Emmanuel / Kitty Cleveland / O Holy Night
3. Comfort, Comfort / Maureen and Bill Hayes / Comfort and Joy
4. Holy Is His Name / Lynn Geyer / Music of the Light
5. A Child Shall Lead / Lynn Geyer / Christmas All Year Through
6. Something's Gonna Come / Joel Stein / Always Forward
7. Waiting for the Christ Child / Nancy Krebs / Come to the Stable
8. Magnificat / Trish Foti Genco / After the Rain

Catholic Music 2007 is just another way we are trying to get these artists heard and to help people celebrate their Faith through the Lords great gift of music.

There are many talented Catholic artists out there who are filled with the Spirit, serving God and the Church through their music ministries, said Beloud, member of the Catholic-rock group Rise. Catholic Music 2007 gives them the opportunity to showcase their work.

Worship will be the first of the two CDs which features more traditional/prayerful music while Disc 2, Praise, will be the more modern upbeat music.

'Christmas at the Abbey' comes Friday November 30, 2007

The walls of Benet Hall at St. Joseph Abbey in Covington will resonate with the joyful sounds of Christmas when New Orleans-based Catholic recording artist Trish Foti Genco performs in concert Friday.

The concert, "Christmas at the Abbey," will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to St. Joseph Abbey for the renovation of Benet Hall.

The concert will showcase songs and music on Genco's latest album, "In His Presence . . . the Gift of Christmas." Produced partly in Nashville, Tenn., the CD was released in November and includes both classic and contemporary Christmas favorites, as well as some New Orleans jazz sounds.

"We did a Christmas CD because the people of New Orleans expressed (to us) that's what they wanted," Genco said. "We're excited about it."

A longtime singer who serves as music director for Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans and cantor for St. Louis Cathedral, Genco said she was drawn to the idea of supporting Benet Hall through a concert to highlight the need for quality performing venues in the greater New Orleans area, particularly north of Lake Pontchartrain.

"We need venues for area musicians," she said. "I think (Benet Hall) is an important cultural center for the north shore."

Constructed in 1961 as a place for seminarians to perform as part of their formation process, the 610-seat venue has also been used for years by the local community for dance, musical and theatrical performances.

According to Benet Hall's theater manager, Kit Friedrichs-Baumann, renovation is taking place in stages, while the theater continues to be in use.

She said visitors to Benet Hall on Friday can enjoy the benefits of a new HVAC system that was recently installed, as well as a new light-control system. Other upgrades planned for the future include seat restoration; new house and stage flooring; and a new sound, lighting and rigging system.

Tickets to "Christmas at the Abbey" may be purchased in advance through Friedrichs-Baumann, or at the door before the performance. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, students and children. St. Joseph Abbey is located at 75376 River Road in Covington. To purchase tickets or obtain more information, call Friedrichs-Baumann at 867-2233.

Trish Foti Genco on recording In His Presence...the Gift of Christmas

Rather than using professional musicians furnished by the Nashville producer, Genco opted to record her Christmas CD using five New Orleans area musicians. All of them, she said, are lifelong friends who enjoy successful professional musical careers locally. These musicians, who will join her onstage at the Abbey concert, include pianist Dreux Montegut, director of music at St. Louis Cathedral; Anne Chabreck, of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, on flute; Karen Ray, of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, on cello; and Jeremy Brekke, of Loyola University, and Vance Woolf, of the LPO, on trumpets.

Genco said she chose to collaborate with local musicians on her Christmas CD "to raise awareness" around the nation that there are good, professional musicians who have remained in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, and "as a city we need to support them."

She said many of the national critical reviews she's read since her CD was released last month indicate a lack of awareness nationwide of the musical talent still available in New Orleans.

"They're shocked that we still have great musicians in the area," Genco said.

*2006/2007 CD Release: "After the Rain"

Friends,
After a long and very eventful year our new project is finally here. Begun prior to Katrina as entirely different project, and left in New Orleans to weather the storm... it is here! Amen. There are pieces of many stories here...part of the total experience of our community. Indeed, we have all been changed by the past year. Hopefully, we are all better in some way for our experiences. My prayer for all of us is that "After the Rain", we will all emerge, stronger, wiser, and more grounded in what really matters. May these songs of hope and inspiration bring you comfort, peace, and closer to God, especially during this sacred season of Lent.

After the Rain - March 5, 2006

AFTER THE RAIN: TRISH FOTI GENCO PRAYS FOR HER NEW ORLEANS

NEW ORLEANS, Sep. 15, 2005 (CNA) Catholic singer/ songwriter Trish Foti Genco left her home and school where she teaches in New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina hit. Genco made it to her sister's home in Houston and watched as her home went through the worst natural disaster in US history. Now safe with her family she wonders about the school children she taught and their families. Genco writes an open letter asking for continued prayer for her beloved city:

"There is a part of New Orleans that you need to live to understand. We are a community based on tradition, family, and faith. It's not the pictures on TV. Natives joke that every in New Orleans is either related or almost related. It's a community with Churches on almost every other corner with Catholic Schools in between. Our calendar and and lives are completely intertwined with the Church Calendar. Whether it's King's Day and king cakes , Lent and seafood, or Mardi Gras and a party. In a surreal way the Catholic faith is part of the City's heritage.

The wrath of hurricane Katrina did not just affect one area or group of people. It's effects range from property destruction to loss of life and everything in between. It was the great equalizer. Perhaps the biggest most immeasurable loss has been our communities. We lost elders and friends, children and babies, landmarks and places of worship. We lost places that shaped our memories and traditions. We've lost dignity, as the media focuses on the careless acts of a few. The real heart of this community is our faith. New Orleans and its community can prevail. As we glance down the street, and see our ravaged city we can't help but see all those churches. Standing there...waiting for us to return home.

You see, after the rain, and the streets drain, and the schools are rebuilt this strong community will fill those churches. We, the real community of New Orleans, will count our blessings, fill our Churches, and celebrate our seasons. We are a people of faith. Like those early followers we will prevail stronger for our experiences and deeper in our faith.

People have asked what need to be done for New Orleans and its community. First, pray. Pray for the healing of our city. Pray for all our leaders and citizens. Pray for our Catholic Schools and Churches. Pray for the children of the city...theirs is the greatest lost. They are displaced and most simply want to go home. They want the security of home and school. Second, perhaps find a Parish to adopt. Many ministries from music to youth ministry will certainly struggle in the coming months. These things will be most needed to heal our community. They won't be helped by other programs. Lastly, mark your calendars for 3 months from now. When the media coverage stops. Pray for us then as we are in the thick of rebuilding.

As a Mom, Catholic School teacher, and New Orleans native thank you for your support. The outpouring of love and support from my temporary Home in Houston has been unbelievable. My children and family are safe and doing well. God is good. Our little community of faith will shine again... after the rain."
